Fetal ultrasoud is a powerful weapon for the surgical treatment of lethal disorders in newborns.


At present, screening ultrasound which is undertaken by obstetricians, is essential for all fetus. However, some disorders are difficult to diagnose and sometimes missed. Special care should be paid for diaphragmatic hernia, bronchopulmonary anomalies and giant omphalocele etc.

Besides the diagnosis, the severity should be evaluated in each disorder for future treatments. Therefore, co-opertion between pediatric surgeons and obstetricians should be established.

Some fetuses are accompanied with symptomsF

polyhydramnios: bronchopulmonary anomalies, obstruction of the alimentary tract, diaphragmatic hernia, etc.
Intrauterine Growth Returdation (IUGR): abdominal wall defects, sacrococcygeal teratoma
